The National Transitional Council declared the liberation of Monrassa on 2 October 2019. Following elections on 7 June 2019, the Monrassa National Transitional Council formally handed over power to the new President, Gabriel Sakoa and his government on14 October.
The initial enthusiasm of the new government has turned into cynicism with accusations of widespread ministerial and police corruption. Something that the President strongly denies. There is widespread support of mobilisation of Russian reservists and generally the War in Ukraine .
There have been some pro Russian protests outside government buildings. The Monrassa Prosecutor's Office has said that participation in protests and unsanctioned "mass events" is a punishable offense which can result "imprisonment for up to 15 years".You should stay away from political demonstrations and rallies, monitor the local security situation carefully, and follow any advice or instruction from the local security authorities. Significant political events may impact on the security situation. Avoid national flags of US , UK & Ukraine .There has been a number of shooting incidents in and around Government Checkpoints - caution is advised.
There are on-going clashes between armed groups and government forces particularly the Movement for the Liberation of Monrassa (MLM). The MLM are starting to see the benefit of potential political influence and do hold sway over some rural regions of Monrassa. There is a high volume of weapons in circulation on the streets of Monrassa. Violent clashes between armed groups are possible across the country, particularly at night, and even in those places that have previously avoided conflict.
